php 4.3.10 is right now the recommended php version for running phpWebSite. But: There seem to be performance issues with it! I've read a short note in the Informatik Forum about it that lead to an article on the heise homepage.

The (german) Article from Heise can be found on heise online. Here's a rough english translation. |
Heavy performance-losses with php-functions | |
---|---|
After fixing a lot of issues of the versions 4.3.9 and 5.0.2 of php, people updating to 4.3.10 or 5.0.3 report about serious performance problems of its patched unserialize-function. Some users say, deserializing bigger things now takes up to 20 times as long. It happens, that especially vBulletin, used for discussion forums, is hit by that. The php team has fixed the bug as of 2005-01-20, but there is no new release available yet. Those who can't wait for a new release should update via one of the Snapshots, they are updated every three hour. The bug is fixed in the snapshot already. |
